Samsung today signaled that it had sold five million Galaxy S phones since they went on sale during the summer. The numbers have been dominated by the US, which accelerated its early sales rate to reach its second million in a month. Sales in Samsung's native South Korea also played a large role at one million total. The results are mixed for Samsung. While the American sales make the Galaxy S line one of the most popular Android variants in the country, the Korean sales suggested that interest has flattened out. Samsung had already recorded 800,000 korean Galaxy S sales in august and may have moved just a quarter of that amount in the several weeks since. The Korean iPhone 4 launch have played a significant role as local carrier KT got 300,000 pre-orders even before the mid-September debut.
